PARKLAND | For the second year in a row, Mary Help of Christian School's Science Olympiad team has earned first place overall at the South Regional Science Olympiad Competition. The ranking qualifies it for the state competition which will take place March 21 at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
The South Regional event was held Jan. 18 at the University of Miami in Coral Gables. The competition consisted of 22 different science and engineering related events. Team members earned first place medals in 15 of the 22 events, second-place medals in four events, and third-place medals in three events.
The team is comprised of 16 students from sixth, seventh and eighth grades. They competed against teams from both public and private schools. At the state level, the MHOC team will be competing against 42 of the top teams from schools throughout the state of Florida.
"We are proud of our students’ hard work and dedication, and we thank our outstanding teachers, Mrs. (Donna) Hanrahan and Mrs. (Alicia) Montgomery, for their time and ongoing commitment to preparing our students for success," said Alexandra Fernandez, MHOC principal. "Go Panthers!"
