MIAMI | The tradition is 20 years old at Corpus Christi but dates centuries back in Spain and Latin America: a Good Friday procession through the streets surrounding the church, with huge floats bearing life-size images of the Captive Christ of Medinaceli and the Virgin of Hope of Macarena (La Macarena).
Adding to the devout display: a colorful "carpet" created just for that night and set out as a path for those carrying the images.
It is perhaps the most colorful and unique of all the Good Friday processions hosted by archdiocesan churches. Here's a look at some photos from the event.
More photos and a behind-the-scenes look at the planning and preparation that go into creating the "carpet" and organizing the procession will be featured in a future online story, and in the April edition of La Voz Católica, the archdiocese's Spanish-language newspaper.
