Miami, FL (September 3, 2024) — The Archdiocese of Miami is honored to announce the receipt  of a significant donation from the Antiguas Alumnas Ursulinas Association. The association has generously gifted a fully operational apartment building to the Archdiocese that will serve as the foundation for a new transitional housing program dedicated to assisting pregnant women and birth mothers.

The donation was formally presented during a small ceremony held at the Archdiocese of Miami’s Pastoral Center on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Archbishop Thomas Wenski, who was also celebrating 27 years of his Episcopal Ordination was officially handed the keys to the 5 unit building, by the  association's board members.

"With this gift of a small apartment building by the Antiguas Alumnas Ursulinas Association, the Archdiocese of Miami’s Catholic Charities will house and provide supportive services to both expectant and new mothers in crisis," said Archbishop Thomas Wenski. "This pro-life initiative comes at a time when we are mobilizing Catholics and others of good will to defeat the draconian pro-abortion Amendment 4."

This new transitional housing program by the Archdiocese’s Catholic Charities will serve as a safe haven that will provide a caring and supportive environment for mothers and their infants. Over time, the program hopes to expand to offer a comprehensive suite of services, including access to pre and postnatal care, intensive case management, counseling, vocational training, education, parenting classes, nutrition support, and childcare, all designed to help the moms move toward self-sufficiency.

This new program is a key milestone in the Archdiocese’s ongoing commitment to supporting families in need.

The apartment building is located at 3186 West Flagler Street, in the heart of Little Havana, and will be known as Casa Ursulinas.
