Miami Shores, FL (March 3, 2025) – Archbishop Thomas Wenski will celebrate Holy Mass on Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at 12:00 p.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church, located at 901 NE 2nd St in Fort Lauderdale.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the 40-day Lenten season, a time of penance and preparation for the commemoration of the passion and death of Jesus Christ, and his ultimate resurrection on Easter Sunday. It is a day of abstinence from meat for Catholics over the age of 14, and a day of fasting — one full meal and two small meals, with nothing eaten between meals — for adults ages 18-59.
In addition, in Miami-Dade, Auxiliary Bishop Enrique Delgado will celebrate Mass at 12:10 p.m. at Gesu Church, 118 NE 2nd St, Miami, FL 33132. Both masses on Ash Wednesday are open to the public.
Prior to the start of the Lenten season, on Tuesday, March 4, at 9:00 a.m., parishes from across the Archdiocese of Miami will burn the palm branches to create ashes for Ash Wednesday. For video opportunity, media is encouraged to attend this year the burning of the palm branches happening at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 300 NW 28th Avenue. Miami, FL 33125. This event is open to media only.
Lent concludes with the celebration of the Mass of the Last Supper on Holy Thursday — the first day of the Easter Triduum — followed by Good Friday services and the celebration of the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday.
