MIRAMAR | The archdiocese’s newest affordable housing facility for seniors is now open in Miramar, located next to St. John XXIII Church along Miramar Parkway.
Archbishop Thomas Wenski blessed Casa Sant’Angelo, a high-quality affordable senior living community for seniors 62 years and older, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 11, 2023.
The facility is part of the outreach to seniors provided by Catholic Health Services in partnership with Catholic Housing Management. Through Catholic Housing Management, the archdiocese offers attractive, well-managed apartment communities at adjusted rental rates to meet the affordability needs of active, independent low-income seniors. Some apartments also are available for younger adults with mobility, hearing or vision impairment.
“We are excited to open our 18th senior housing community in South Florida,” said Juana D. Mejia, vice president of Housing Development & Operations for Catholic Housing Management. “This community brings 113 apartments to independent low-income seniors. Thank you to all of our staff, partners, and applicants for their support in ensuring this grand opening came to fruition.”
Casa Sant’Angelo was built in partnership with Atlantic Pacific Companies. Financing came from Broward County, First Housing Development Corporation, Florida Housing Finance Corporation, and Wells Fargo.
The mid-rise building has 113 one- and two-bedroom units. Showcasing a scenic courtyard with a fountain view, the property includes a community room, library, computer room, and dedicated spaces for gathering. The location is close to restaurants and shops, while also facing the entrance to Miramar Regional Park.
Casa Sant’Angelo provides high-quality housing to seniors earning between 30% and 80% of the area median income, thanks to housing tax credits provided by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation.
Casa Sant’Angelo is the first development to use the new city code in Miramar that provides impact fee waivers to affordable housing.
Catholic Housing Management develops, owns, and manages a portfolio of 18 housing developments with over 2,400 elderly affordable units in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. It has been managing elderly housing for over 45 years and operates under the umbrella of Catholic Health Services.
Catholic Health Services, a ministry of the Archdiocese of Miami, is the largest post-acute provider in the southeast United States. It provides a full continuum of healthcare and social services to the southeast Florida community, serving more than 6,500 people daily and operating 38+ facilities in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
