MIAMI | A St. Brendan High School student was the fastest male swimmer in the 50-yard freestyle competition at this year’s state championship meet, held Nov. 14 in Stuart.

Senior Zuhayr Pigot won the state championship in the 50-yard men’s freestyle and was runner-up in the 100-yard men’s butterfly for Class 2A, but his time was the fastest of any freestyle swimmer in any of the four high school classifications (4A, 3A, 2A, 1A).

Another St. Brendan swimmer, freshman Chantel Peiter, placed 10th overall in the 50-yard girls freestyle championship race for Class 2A.

Zuhayr will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a swimming scholarship in the fall of 2015.
