MIAMI GARDENS | Msgr. Edward Pace High celebrated some of its brightest students as 48 new members were inducted into the school's chapter of the National Honor Society.
The traditional NHS Induction Ceremony took place Dec. 4 in the Spartan Center where the students were joined by family members, Pace administration, faculty and staff.
A meticulous selection process identified current students in grades 10-12 who have a 3.5 grade point average or higher, and have proven to be well-rounded students and members of their community. Eligible inductees were selected by a committee of teachers and staff. All those considered must exhibit excellence across four key pillars: academics, leadership, service, and character. The selection process included student-submitted applications and written essays describing their personal accomplishments as Pace students and how they represent the qualities of the National Honor Society.
Among those inducted were 15 sophomores, 20 juniors and 13 seniors. The event presentations included speeches from Pace Principal Ana Garcia and NHS adviser Luis Mayo congratulating the students and their parents on their journey to this proud moment.
Mayo, a Pace High School alumnus and former NHS member, recalled his own induction as one of the highlights of his high school years.
“It was an honor and a great recognition because it demonstrated that I worked hard at school and outside of the classroom environment in my community. I expect that same feeling with my current and new members. Not everyone can be selected into this organization, so it is definitely a great accomplishment.”
The 48 new inductees were asked to stand during the ceremony and together they recited the NHS induction pledge. Each student was then presented with a certificate and individual lighted candles, a traditional symbol of this organization’s honor. All students ended the evening posing for photos with their new NHS peers.
