MIAMI | November is Black Catholic History Month, a time to celebrate the long proud history of black Catholics, who trace their faith back to Africa centuries ago. In the Archdiocese of Miami, the black Catholic community continues to experience a rich cultural tradition and a historical faith movement.
The Office of Black Catholic Ministry is inviting everyone to participate in the following activities to celebrate Black Catholic History Month:
- Luncheon and presentation of St. Martin de Porres Awards for Excellence, Saturday, Nov. 11, noon, Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort, 16700 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. Donation: $50; table of 10/$500;
- Mass, Sunday, Nov. 12, 2:30 p.m., St. Monica, 3490 N.W. 191 St., Miami. Celebrant: Msgr. Chanel Jeanty;
- Mass, Saturday, Nov. 25, 4 p.m., Our Lady of Mercy, 5201 N. Military Trail, Deerfield Beach.
A souvenir booklet is being compiled to commemorate Black Catholic History month. The proceeds from this souvenir booklet will assist the Office of Black Catholic Ministry's efforts to provide leadership programs, workshops, and spiritual enhancements to the black Catholic community.
The deadline for advertisement in the souvenir booklet is Oct. 28.
