CORAL GABLES | Twenty outstanding eighth graders from St. Theresa School in Coral Gables have been recognized for their dedication to academics and community engagement.

At a schoolwide Mass held at the Church of the Little Flower on Sept. 16, 2022, the students were inducted into the prestigious National Junior Honor Society, joining scholars in all 50 states.

Founded in 1929, NJHS elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

St. Theresa's NJHS scholars are Sofia Alfaro, Aaron Almeida, Victoria Biggs, Sara Bohorquez, Lilianne Calvo, Cole Castello, Isabella Cuadrado, Roberto Echeverri, Matias Fernandez, Gianmarco Fior, Carlota Giampetruzzi, Elise Guiteras, Valeria Laurrari, Grace Leon,  Grace Mendieta, Gianna Montiel, Sophie Silva, Patricia Trujillo, Lydie Van Hemert and Valeria Vergara.

"These young people embody St. Theresa's commitment to Catholic faith formation, academic excellence and service," said Daniel Serrano, St. Theresa's NJHS moderator and social studies teacher.
