St. Michael students show off in Showdown

Pre-K through fourth-graders place 11th worldwide, fifth in U.S. in IXL subject matter contest

MIAMI | A third grade class at St. Michael the Archangel School has earned 11th place worldwide and fifth place in the country in the 2023 IXL Spring Learning Showdown

“They have been using the IXL program throughout the school year,” said Lisette Reina-Naranjo, St. Michael’s principal. “However, this was a separate competition which included 43,000 classes from around the world. We competed against numerous classes in the pre-K through fourth grade category, including other schools in Florida, Egypt, Greece, etc.”

The “showdown” ran from April 1 to April 30, with classrooms around the world vying to answer the most questions on IXL. The subject matter included math, language arts, science, social studies and Spanish.

St. Michael’s students answered 6,296 questions.

“I am extremely proud of our students!,” Reina-Naranjo said.
