MIAMI | At the start of the 2021-22 school year, Christopher Columbus High School announced a promotion and a number of additions to their team.
Dean of Students
The school appointed Bob Linfors, a class of ‘85 alumnus, to dean of students. Linfors has been a teacher, moderator, and coach throughout his 26 years at Columbus. He has a strong work ethic and he is well respected by his students and colleagues. We are confident in his ability to provide leadership and a presence on our campus.
Director of College & Career Services
Iris Martinez joined the team after spending the last seven years in the Office of Undergraduate Admission at the University of Miami. She started out reading applications as a graduate student in 2014 and went on to become a senior assistant director of Admission. Prior to her work in that office, she had graduated from UM with a bachelor’s degree in criminology and a minor in public relations. She completed one year of law school at St. Thomas University before returning to UM and graduating with a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration and a certificate in Enrollment Management and Student Life and Development. During Iris’ tenure at UM, she successfully designed and executed several initiatives to identify, recruit, and yield students from historically underrepresented groups, including pioneering the now annual U Dreamers Program, through which UM recognizes a group of exceptional and academically accomplished Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students with one of the university’s most selective academic opportunities.
Director of Service-Learning
Marist Brother Albert Rivera returns to Columbus this school year as director of Service-Learning and a member of the World Languages department, teaching Spanish 3. He has been a Marist Brother for over 20 years and just completed six years in leadership with the Provincial Council. He will continue serving the region of Arco Norte as a member of the regional committee. He is also a published author (Catholic Youth Update, a magazine for youth ministry) and received the Cervantes Award for Excellence in Hispanic Education.
Lacrosse
Steven Hernandez, ‘12, returns to Columbus as associate head lacrosse coach and member of the support staff. Prior to returning to Columbus, he built Westminster Christian School's lacrosse program, leading it to a historic victory over St. Thomas Aquinas (for the first and only time). Hernandez currently holds the record at Columbus for most goals in a single season.
Soccer
Kameron Clark, ‘10, returns to Columbus as head soccer coach and physical education teacher. After graduating from Florida Gulf Coast University, he returned to Miami to become the boys head soccer coach at Coral Reef Senior High School, leading them to back-to-back district titles and regional appearances. He then continued his coaching career at Gulliver Prep, where he led the boys team to a 4A state championship last season. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Kameron still plays at a high level for a semi-professional team in the UPSL.
