MIAMI | Canon law (495.1) requires that every diocese establish a Presbyteral Council, “that is, a group of priests which, representing the presbyterium, is to be like a senate of the bishop and which assists the bishop in the governance of the diocese”
Canon 497 determines how the council members are selected: “The priests themselves are freely to elect about half; some priests must be ex officio members, that is, members who are to belong to the council by reason of the office entrusted to them; the diocesan bishop is freely entitled to appoint others.”
This is the list of newly elected and appointed members of the Presbyteral Council of the Archdiocese of Miami, effective at the end of the September.
