Knowing the archbishop likes to ride to the Keys on his motorcycle, parishioners at St. Peter made sure to designate a parking space.
BIG PINE KEY | Despite damage from hurricane Irma, which made its church unusable, sacramental life is back on track at St. Peter Parish in Big Pine Key � only now Sunday Masses and other gatherings take place underneath the covered pavilion on the parish grounds, rather than inside the church.
It was there that Archbishop Thomas Wenski presided at an important sacramental event April 8 confirmation of a group of teenagers and several adults who had undergone the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
Earlier that day, Father Richard Vigoa, director of the archdiocesan Office of Worship, also conducted a training session for St. Peter’s extraordinary ministers of holy Communion.
St. Peter is in the process of rebuilding its church, which was damaged by flooding from last September’s hurricane. The building must be rebuilt to comply with new building codes.
Also last weekend, the church’s food bank � housed in a trailer � re-opened. The food bank is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
