Miami (September 8, 2014) On September 5, 2014, the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, sent a letter on behalf of Pope Francis to express the Holy Fathers condolences to the Sotloff family for the recent loss of their son Steven.

The letter was sent via the Apostolic Nuncio in the United States, The Most Reverend Carlo Maria Vigan, to the local Ordinary where the Sotloff family resides, which in this case is the Archdiocese of Miami.

Upon receiving the letter, Archbishop Thomas Wenski delivered it to Rabbi Bookman, the rabbi close to the Sotloff family, who is delivering the letter to the family himself.
