NORTH LAUDERDALE | Over 50 people gathered at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery in North Lauderdale Sept. 13 to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance for aborted children. Those in attendance gathered around a monument at the cemetery which is "dedicated to the loving memory of the millions of unborn children massacred by abortion."

Similar ceremonies took place around the nation. The event was organized by Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, Priests for Life and the Pro-Life Action League. It is only the second year that the National Day of Remembrance is commemorated. The goal of the observance is to "call on pro-life Americans to honor the grave sites of our unborn brothers and sisters."

The first National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children was held in September 2013, on the 25th anniversary of the solemn burial of the earthly remains of some 1,500 abortion victims in Milwaukee, Wis. Over 100 memorial services were held across the United States, and it was clear this should become an annual event.

The Day of Remembrance will be held annually on the second Saturday in September.
