HOLLYWOOD | Students from Nativity School recently excelled at the local level in the fields of geography and science
and engineering.
Nativity hosted its own National Geographic Geography Bee, and eighth grader Ryan Sharkey won the schoolwide contest. But his journey continued. After the school contest, Ryan took a computer-generated test from the National Geographic Geography Bee and qualified to compete at the state level. He will be representing his school at a competition in Jacksonville April 1.
Meanwhile, science and engineering projects made by students from Nativity also won at the Broward County Science Fair, where they competed against 57 public, charter, private and Catholic schools and a total of 463 projects. With the aid of science teachers Gloria Gibson and Tara Riahifar, 10 projects were submitted from Nativity and nine won awards, including one first place.
Sixth grader Andrew DiStefano, the first place winner, was
invited to participate at the state level. His project, titled “Radioactive
Particles in the Mist,” will compete along with 20 other local and state projects
at the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair.
