Six new deacons ordained for Miami

Will spend a year working in parishes before ordination to priesthood in 2015

Bishop Gregory Parkes of Pensacola-Tallahassee, representing the bishops of Florida, celebrated the ordination Mass at St. Joan of Arc Church in Boca Raton. The deacons will spend the next year working in a parish on weekends while completing their theology studies at St. Vincent de Paul Seminary in Boynton Beach. In addition to the six from Miami, four were ordained for the Diocese of St. Petersburg, two were ordained for Orlando, and one was ordained for St. Augustine.

Updated May 16, 2014: The new deacons have been assigned to the following parishes, effective June 1 until their ordination next year:
  • Deacon Bryan Garcia, St. David, David
  • Deacon Javier Barreto, All Saints, Sunrise
  • Deacon Julio De Jesus, St. Andrew, Coral Springs
  • Deacon Michael Garcia, Our Lady of Divine Providence, Miami
  • Deacon Phillip Tran, St. Thomas the Apostle, Miami
  • Deacon Yamil Miranda, Our Lady of the Lakes, Miami Lakes

Many blessings and congratulations to our new members of the Order of Deacons. It was a joyous and moving occasion for me and my family to partake of the mass and celebration.
