PARKLAND| Students at Mary Help of Christians Catholic School are saying "No" to drugs and "Yes" to positive and fun activities as part of Red Ribbon Week. As part of the positively fun activities, on Oct. 30, a group of fourth graders adorned in wet weather ponchos got a sticky soaking as they sent Diet Coke flying into the air with the simple application of a Mentos mint.

“At the beginning of Red Ribbon Week my students told me that it would be great to do cool science instead of drugs, so what’s cooler than sending Coke flying sky high,” said science teacher Lisa DiRenzo.

Parents also turned out to support their young scientists, especially when the time came to wash their sticky hands and feet.

“Our teachers are always exploring creative ideas to reinforce a lesson,” said Principal Stephen Brown. “Today’s activity is yet another example of the engaging spirit at MHOC. Let’s work together to keep our kids safe from drugs.”
