SOUTHWEST RANCHES | Five months after breaking ground, and one week prior to the 2015-2016 school year, dignitaries, student-athletes, faculty, and administration attended the blessing of a new, 5,000 square foot, ultramodern, energy efficient, free standing locker room at Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School.
The locker room was blessed by Auxiliary Bishop Peter Baldacchino following an outdoor gathering prayer led by Father Brendan Dalton, supervising principal. Assisted by school chaplain Father Jean Jadotte, Bishop Baldacchino blessed the crucifixes and mission statements which were hung throughout the locker room. The bishop then blessed the entire building.
The state of the art and energy efficient locker room is located adjacent to the Student and Performing Arts Center and the Sportsplex Fitness Center on the west side of the campus.
It features two drop-down screens, offices for coaches, a conference room for team/strategy meetings and security monitors, as well as gender specific bathrooms, showers and 20 lockers on each side. Each side also enjoys the same square footage and storage.
An additional 57 six-foot lockers are available for equipment-intensive sports and a Lacrosse wall provides all weather passing and catching opportunities.
Following the blessing, guests attended a luncheon where special recognition was given to Sister Elizabeth Worley of the Sisters of St. Joseph, who serves as archdiocesan chancellor for administration, as well as building architect Stephen Brasgalla, archdiocesan project manager James Carballo and contractor Paul Fluty.
“The individuals with us today worked above and beyond to finish this project before the deadline and well within the budget,” said Richard P. Jean, principal. “Our student-athletes are already in the building and enjoying the benefits of another campus enhancement.”
