Eight Belen student-athletes sign national letters of intent

Golfer Oscar Cabanas signs his letter of intent to play for Fordham University.

MIAMI- The Belen Community enthusiastically announces that eight of its student athletes signed their national letters of intent to play sports at the university level. The signing ceremony took place Feb. 6 in the school cafeteria.

"We are very proud of these young men. This signing day is a result of many years of hard work on the playing fields, in the classroom and in the weight room," said Richard Stuart, head football coach. "All of them are outstanding young men and they will be excellent Belen ambassadors at their respective universities." 

FOOTBALL:

  • Keonte Cash: offensive line, Florida A & M University 
  • Xavier Hines: defensive back, Florida International University
  • Mateo Buraglia: kicker/punter, Bucknell University
  • Cristian Garcia:defensive tackle, Malone University
  • Andres Garcia: defensive end, Malone University
  • Camilo Padron: linebacker/fullback, Marist College 
GOLF:
  • Oscar Cabanas: Fordham University
SOCCER:
  • Eduardo Valle: Stony Brook University

"It is a great honor for the Belen community to have these athletes be recognized for their stellar abilities," said Jesuit Father Pedro Suarez, president of the school. "They are not only great athletes, but fine students and a great representation of Belen."
