MIAMI | Jennifer Ann Lamy, a senior at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Prep, has received the Posse Foundation Scholarship, a four-year fully paid tuition scholarship. Jennifer will be attending Mount Holyoke College in Boston, Mass. in the fall of 2014 where she plans to major in architecture.

"I was extremely excited when I heard the news and was speechless," said Jennifer. "Since it is a fairly small school, I can have better interaction with my teachers. I believe that this environment will help me to learn and understand the materials better so that one day, I can become a great architect."

In 2012, ACND graduate Jessica Blanchard also received this scholarship and is currently a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania.

Every year over 14,000 students are nominated by high schools and only 3 percent are offered the scholarship. Jennifer competed with hundreds of local high school students. POSSE looks for students who have been positive contributors to their schools and communities, and have demonstrated leadership ability, communication, and team building skills.

Jennifer is an extremely active student who is a member of the soccer, softball, and cross-country teams and this year served as captain of the girls cross-country team. She is a member of National Honor and Spanish Honor Societies, the Choir, Art, Edmund Rice, and Drama clubs. Her service activities include volunteering at the Miami Children's Museum, at the school's HungerFest (where students pack and distribute lunches and raise funds for the poor) and she helps out at ACND's Performing Arts Summer Camp.

"Jenny came to us from Haiti after the earthquake as a quiet young girl and has taken advantage of her opportunities here at ACND to blossom into an intelligent, outgoing, leader," said Douglas Romanik, ACND principal.  "We are very proud of Jenny and know that she will continue to grow as a leader in the future."
