MIAMI | Belen Jesuit's Varsity Swim Team won its seventh consecutive regional championship Nov. 5, competing against 16 other teams. The varsity swimmers scored 417 points while Mater Academy-Hialeah Gardens, the runner up, scored 247 points.
Belen was the fastest team in the three relays where its swimmers participated in. The school took first place in the 200-yard medley relay, with Boleck de Pawlikowski swimming backstroke, Manny Lopez swimming breaststroke, Alejandro Carriazo swimming butterfly and Ryan Guso swimming freestyle.
In the 200-free relay, Belen Jesuit was first with Ryan Guso, Juan Perez Costa, Max Garcia del Pozo and Daniel Simpson swimming. In the 400-yard free relay, the team came in first place again with Boleck de Pawlikowski, Juan Perez Costa, Alejandro Carriazo, and Ryan Guso finishing the night with joy and a lot of excitement.
Boleck accumulated 60 points by himself and in the individual results became the only Belen Jesuit swimmer ranked first in his events, the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.
The team will now head to the state meet Nov. 15 in Stuart to defend its state title.
"We are very proud of our swimmers and coaches. They have done an incredible job representing Belen Jesuit and we are excited for them to defend their state title," said Jesuit Father Pedro Suarez, school president.
