MIAMI |Father Chris Marino, rector of St. Mary Cathedral, celebrated Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite on the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Sept. 14.

This Tridentine or Traditional Latin Mass commemorated the fifth anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI's motu proprio, "Summorum Pontificum", which reaffirmed the place of the older form of the Roman liturgy in the life of the Church.

About 300 people attended the Mass, the majority of them ages 35 or younger, according to Father Marino. Also taking part were five priests and more than 20 seminarians.

Father Marino plans to celebrate another Mass in the extraordinary rite on Oct. 11, the feast of the maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and another on All Souls Day.

I think it's fine that they're having more masses in Latin but I don't think the English masses should be infused with Latin also. Adding prayers and/or music in Latin to an English mass doesn't seem right. An English mass should be completely in English.

We are so thankful to Fr. Christopher Marino for opening the Cathedral for the wonderful Traditional Masses in beautiful chanted sacrifice to our Lord. Thank you and all priests celebrating these long desired Masses.

Thank you Father Marino for reminding us that the Tridentine Mass never left our Church. Thank you for making the Mass more accessible in our cathedral. I hope and pray that the Mass will be offered in more parishes. Finally, I was glad to read that most of the faithful attendees were young. Bodes well for the future.
