The general moderator of the Sisters of Social Service, Sister Agnes Pataki (second from left), visited members of her community in South Florida this month and stopped by the Pastoral Center Jan. 24 to meet with Archbishop Thomas Wenski. Pictured here in the Garden of Memories at the Pastoral Center is the archbishop with Sister Pataki, Sister Suzanne Simo (far left), a retired sister living in the archdiocese who worked for 30 years at Centro Hispano Catolico in Miami, and Sister Yillian Gonzalez, one of 19 Sisters of Social Service working in Cuba. Sister Gonzalez, who works in El Cobre, was visiting her family in Miami. Another member of the community, Sister Irmina Rojas, also is retired in Miami but continues to volunteer at Centro Mater, where she served for many years. The archbishop was showing Sister Pataki the plaque honoring Cardinal Jzsef Mindszenty, who suffered under communism in Hungary. Sister Pataki is a native of Hungary. The memorial plaques were commissioned by Archbishop Joseph P. Hurley of St. Augustine back when Miami was part of that diocese, and scuplted by Yugoslavian artist Ivan Mestrovic.
