MIAMI LAKES | Students, teachers and special guests from Our Lady of the Lakes Church and School celebrated the Christmas season with a presentation of a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. The production featured the Our Lady of the Lakes adult and children's choirs under the direction of Adrian Dominican Sister Helene Kloss; school musicians and the Glee Club led by music teacher Dominick Cama; and the middle school Diamond dancers directed by teacher Noelle Iglesias-Suarez and choreographer Katrina Rodriguez.

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a prayer service that has a long tradition in Great Britain and Christian churches around the world. Nine readings from the biblical books of Genesis, the Prophets and the Gospels are combined with music and congregational singing of Christmas carols. The readings tell the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus.

Our Lady of the Lakes production featured esteemed guest readers as well as teachers and students. The readers included the Honorable Judge Nuria Saenz; school principal Ricardo Briz; teachers Rose Cabrera, Fanny Medina and Sylvia Gonzalez; students Isabella Cardoso, Michael Gonzalez, Reese Garcia and Andres Gancedo, as well as a reading and reflection by Our Lady of the Lakes' administrator, Father Jose Alvarez. The Christmas concert concluded with a touching rendition of Carol Cymbala's  "Happy Birthday Jesus" sung by second grader Olivia Linares along with the entire congregation.
