Immaculata-La Salle computer graphics teacher wins award

MIAMI| Elena Capablanca, a computer graphics teacher at Immaculata-La Salle High School, was among the winners of the 16th annual Cervantes Outstanding Educator Awards, which were given out at the end of October.

The awards, which are hosted by Nova Southeastern University’s Fischler School of Education and Human Services and its Hispanic Advisory Board, pay special tribute during Hispanic Heritage Month to members of Miami-Dade County schools who have made significant contributions to promoting excellence in the education of Hispanic students.

“Elena’s student are extremely lucky to have her as a teacher,” said Fredy Padovan, executive director for advancement and technology at Immaculata-La Salle (ILS). “Her talents in the area of graphic design are limitless and she is able to expertly provide our students skills that are increasingly in demand in the workplace.”

Capablanca is a Miami native and alumnae of ILS. She has two Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, one in graphic design and one in 3D animation. She has been teaching at ILS for the past seven years, overlooking the technical fine arts electives, which include graphics, 3D animation, TV and film production, sound engineering and photography. Capablanca is also the Key Club moderator.

Capablanca believes, “Immaculata - La Salle is a wonderful place to work every day and I am blessed to have such a supportive community.”
