Mass for first anniversary of Synod's conclusion

Miamiā€¦(October 17, 2014) On Oct. 26 at 10 a.m., Archbishop Thomas Wenski will celebrate a Mass to mark the first anniversary of the conclusion of the Second General Synod of the Archdiocese of Miami and the publication of the Pastoral Plan, Disciples in Faith, Missionaries of Hope - the three-year guide that the Archdiocese of Miami has been following.

The Mass will take place at St. Mary Cathedral, 7525 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL.

The word Synod has become a familiar one in recent days with the Synod of Bishops taking place throughout this and next year at the Vatican. At the Archdiocese of Miami, a Second General Synod took place from 2012 and until 2013 in which Archbishop Wenski listened to South Florida Catholics from across all parishes in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties on what their hopes and dreams were for the Catholic Church in South Florida. Following these “listening sessions” as they were called, came the process of putting those hopes and dreams into a tangible Pastoral Plan of action which became the pastoral priority for the archdiocese.

The Synod process concluded on October of 2013, marking the first time such a process had been undertaken at the archdiocese since the First General Synod took place in 1985.

What is a Synod?

In a Synod, the bishop calls his people together in order to move forward on a pathway. The goal of the Synod is to set pastoral priorities for the future and inspire and engage the People of God to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
