MIAMI | On Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m., 10 advanced photojournalism students from the IPC Visual Lab will present a series of photographs in an exhibition titled “Carnival of Color" in the ACND Gallery at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Prep.

The exhibit, curated by Pulitzer Prize-winning Miami Herald photojournalist Carl Juste, aims to document the vibrant, colorful life characteristic of South Florida, and a portion will be a photo essay, Faces of Carnival Miami 2013.

“Color is emotions wrapped in feelings, a beauty given to this world that we cannot imagine ever living without,” said Juste in his curator’s statement. “Color makes our lives rich in its intensity by gathering ideas in its strata and depth while defining more than just a mood, hence color is memory.”

The exhibiting photographers are Nancy Ancrum; Anthony Harris; Tomas Hauff; Nina Jackson; Jennifer Kay; Andriana Mereuta; Jenny Romney; Marco Tejada; Zeus Shama; Gina Valenti.

Some students are already working in media professions while others wish to further develop either professional or recreational photojournalism skills.

The IPC Visual Lab offers a 10-week photography, total immersion program which is designed to provide instruction and hands-on training in the art of digital photography. Students are encouraged to be creative, but are also taught to think of each project as a concise statement of artistic, documentary, and/or journalistic intent.

About Carl Juste

Carl Phillipe Juste is a 1981 graduate of Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Prep. Under threat of persecution, he fled with his family from Haiti in 1965. Settling in Miami's Haitian community, Juste flourished academically and won a scholarship to the University of Miami. Although he intended to be an engineer, he could not ignore the photographic inner voice that had spoken to him since childhood. Responding to a clear relationship he shared with the visual world, Juste vigorously pursued photojournalism. Since 1991, he has served his community through his work at the Miami Herald. He has received numerous awards for his work including Picture of the Year, Pulitzer Prize, Society for News Design, Best of Photojournalism, and the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award. Juste is founder of both the IPC Visual Lab and Iris Photo Collective.
