SOUTHWEST RANCHES Under a clear blue sky, nearly 1,000 members of the Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School family of students, faculty and parents witnessed the blessing of the new blue Maverick Track.

Following the blessing, members of the Maverick track team took to the track for the first lap.

The Maverick track and field team had been looking forward to the refurbishment; the original track was created 11 years ago when the school was built.

Our track has received a much needed update, said David DiNicola, head track coach at Archbishop McCarthy High. Building the track was a very involved process, and its completion will make an enormous difference for our school community and athletic program. Now the best athletes will have the best facility.

Our track is quite unique, there aren't many royal blue tracks; only a handful throughout the nation, said Anthony Massaro, McCarthys athletic director.
